A small vintage plane has crash-landed on lanes of 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills on Tuesday, October 23, bursting into flames. Amazingly, the pilot has been able to walk away.

The North American SNJ-5 aircraft with the pilot onboard as solo occupant crashed close to the center lanes of northbound 101 Freeway near Liberty Canyon Road at around 1:15 p.m., according to LA County Fire Department. 

The wing of the plane, still aflame, was draped over center divider as crews tried to extinguish the fire.

The aircraft's back end appeared to be missing as the blaze continued to burn on lanes. A spokesperson confirmed it had taken off It took off from Van Nuys Airport. 

All lanes had to be closed and traffic on the northbound side was backed up for miles while crews worked to clear the wreckage. 

The plane featuring German markings on its wings is usually seen in parades and belongs to Condor Squadron club, Van Nuys Airport revealed. The club non-profit organization, established by WWII pilots in 1965, is preserving aviation history.

FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
