1 Dead, 2 Missing Following Plane Crash off Long Island

At least 1 person is dead following a plane crash in the water approx 1 mile off of a beach in Quogue, Long Island.

Coast Guard (CG) watchstanders reported they had seen a twin-engine Piper PA-34 crashing into the water at around 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13. The crash site is about 3 miles south of Francis S.Grabreski Airport, Westhampton Beach.

One body was recovered. The victim's identity has not yet been released. According to FAA, there were 3 people onboard the plane.

Oil and debris were also found close to the crash site.

Plane Crash off Long Island

Christopher Isola, Quogue Village Police Department Chief, said the cause of the plane crash was still unknown.

Witnesses reported they had heard the engine stuttering sounding like a stunt plane.
