A 12-year-old boy was found alive in the wreckage of an airplane crash which murdered 8 people in Indonesia.
Photos from the scene showed the boy conscious, looking at the camera. He was found in the wreckage on a mountainside close to the border with Papua New Guinea Sunday morning, August 12.
The Swiss-made Pilatus airplane he had been flying in lost contact with air traffic control Saturday afternoon, shortly before it had to land at Oksibil airport.
The aircraft, owned by private charter Dimonim Air, was flying from Tanah Merah, around 40 minutes flight south, to Oksibil, Papua province, when it went down. It was carrying 9 people, including 2 crew members.
News agency AFP revealed that nearby villagers had heard "loud roar followed by an explosion".
Officials said an investigation into the cause of the plane crash would be carried out.
