A twin-engine Cessna that was bound for John Wayne Airport (Orange County, Calif), crashed into a parking lot of Staples office supply store Sunday, August 5, killing all 5 people onboard, Orange County fire officials announced.
According to Capt. Tony Bommarito of Orange County Fire Authority, no one on the ground had been injured.
The accident happened just after 12:30 p.m. local time.
According to FAA records, 1973 Cessna 414 was registered Category III Aviation Corp. (San Francisco company). It had flown from San Francisco Bay area suburb of Concord.
The location of the plane crash is between the cities of Costa Mesa and Santa Ana, around 40 minutes south of Los Angeles. The site of the crash is a little more than mile away from John Wayne Airport.
Tweets from people close to the scene showed a crumpled plane among the palm trees and cars of the parking lot.
