Four people, of which Paraguay Agriculture Minister Luis Gneiting and 3 others, died when the twin engine plane carrying them to country's capital Asuncion crashed into wetland Wednesday night, July 25.
According to Joaquin Roa, head of the National Emergency Secretariat, emergency workers were trying to recover the bodies. He added the airplane was "totally disintegrated."
The search and rescue team located the aircraft Thursday morning 6 kilometres (3.73 mi) from the airport in the southern city of Ayolas, where the airplane took off, head of the National Civil Aviation Directorate Luis Aguirre revealed.
Aguirre said the remains of the plane had been found in wetland, and the tip of the tail was visible but the rest of the aircraft was underwater. He added the plane had only been in the air for 2 or 3 minutes and had not reached high altitude before falling. Vicente Ramirez, Gneiting's vice-minister for cattle, and plane's pilot (Gerardo Lopez, former agriculture vice-minister) and co-pilot also died in the crash.
Gneiting, who took office 2 months ago, is the former governor of Itapua department, one of the main soy producing regions in Paraguay.
