Airlines waived change fees today, December 8, for flights to Atlanta as wintry weather moved into the region.
The USA’s 4 biggest airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest and United, put weather-related waivers into place on Thursday. Frontier and JetBlue had also added flexible rebooking policies for all Atlanta flights. Waivers covered Friday flights to/from Atlanta, which was expected to experience a mix of rain and snow during the day.
The weather had an impact on flights and as of 8:20 a.m.ET, nearly 160 flights had been canceled at Atlanta's airport, representing around 5% of the day's schedule at the airport, which is the busiest in the world.
National Weather Service had winter weather advisory for an area which included the airport and warned of "periods of snow or rain mixed with snow."
Even the hint of snow usually creates panic in Atlanta which sees snow infrequently. Beyond Atlanta, flights in Corpus Christi, Texas were also seeing above-average cancellations today after the first major snowfall in more than a decade.
