American Airlines Group announced it had found aviators to staff all but "a few hundred" of its flights during the holiday season, easing concerns of disruptions a day after scheduling-system snag raised possibility that 15,000 would lack pilots.
The largest airline in the world has not scrubbed any flights scheduled for December. An unusually large number of aviators on standby during the month should cover remaining trips without assigned pilots.
American Airlines' staffing update assuaged fears of flight cancellations during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. AA offered 1.5 times their normal pay for its pilots to take unassigned flights.
The glitch caused the carrier's scheduling system to show that the company had ample staffing coverage for some of its planned flights when it actually did not.
This month only, American will operate a total of 200,000 flights.
