Airbus landed the biggest-ever deal in aerospace industry by number of planes, via an agreement to sell a total of 430 jets worth up to US$50 billion (£38 billion) to budget airlines.
Preliminary deal for A320neo narrowbody jets was signed at Dubai airshow on Wednesday, November 15 and offers a boost to Airbus, which lagged in deals its rival Boeing in 2017.
However, Boeing hit back with provisional agreement to sell a total of 175 planes to budget airline Flydubai. Through the options to purchase further 50 planes, that deal could be worth US$27 billion at list prices.
The deal between Airbus and United States' budget airline investor Bill Franke’s Indigo Partners is the largest ever in industry by number of aircraft.
Indigo intends to supply A320neo narrowbody jets to 4 airlines in which it has stakes: Chilean carrier JetSmart, Mexico’s Volaris, Hungary’s Wizz Air and US carrier Frontier Airlines.
