United Airlines flew passengers on Boeing 747 for the last time yesterday, November 7.
The carrier operated the last, specially scheduled “farewell” flight on the iconic jumbo jet, from San Francisco to Honolulu as United Flight 747. It was United’s final passenger flight on 747 before retiring the airplane.
This ended the 47-year run of the iconic plane at United, which took the jet's first version in 1970.
After United’s farewell flight landed in Honolulu, Delta became the only United States' passenger carrier flying the jet. However, Delta Air Lines' final flight on 747 is also on the horizon, meaning no U.S. carrier will be flying the Boeing into 2018.
