A GomAir cargo plane flying for CENI (Independent National Electoral Commission) of Democratic Republic of Congo went missing Thursday night, December 19, and reportedly crashed on Friday.
6 people were killed in the cargo plane crash which happened within 25 miles of Kinshasa's N'djili Intl Airport, according to local sources.
A total of 23 people, including 3 Russian pilots, were onboard of the An-26.
Contact with the plane was lost Thursday evening when the plane was flying back to the capital of the country, Kinshasa, after delivering materials for upcoming presidential election.
The accident comes as the long-anticipated presidential vote in Congo was halted for a week due to fights between protesters and police, logistical troubles, as well as intra-ethnic clashes that led to the death of over 100 people.
